BONIFAY — The pro wrestling community is once again coming together to fight a common opponent: cancer. “Wrestling Against Cancer” is taking place this Saturday, May 8, at the Bonifay Rec Center. This year’s event will help offset the medical expenses of Heather Powell.
Powell, a Holmes County resident, was diagnosed squamous cell carcinoma in 2019 and has since undergone surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation.
This is the 6th Wrestling Against Cancer event hosted by organizer Jack Patterson, who has a passion for helping families dealing with cancer offset the often-staggering medical costs.
“I’ve been led to help the community in this specific way,” said Patterson. “God put it on my heart, and I prayed about it. I let the Holy Spirit lead me. Cancer hits hard and leaves a lot of people are in financial need. I hope the community will come out and help support Heather Powell on May 8.”
Just some of those scheduled to appear are Witness, “Mr. 850” Donnie B., the Confederate Cowboys in a one-night only reunion, and, for the first time in five years, Chris Tighe.
Doors will open at the Bonifay Rec Center at 5:30 p.m. with bell time at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 with free admission for children 3 and under. All proceeds will go Powell.
