County approves infrastructure grant application


Holmes County Development Commission Executive Director Joe Rone requested approval from the Holmes County Board of County Commissioners to apply for a Community Development Block Grant when the board met in regular session on Tuesday.

The CDBG Economic Development grant could fund up to $2 million for infrastructure improvements to the county if awarded. The plans include drainage improvements and aligning roads to aid in the drainage south of Interstate 10. The improvements will be beneficial to Bonifay residents who are plagued with flooding issues after heavy rains. Rone requested the approval of commissioners who voted unanimously to apply for the grant. 

In other business, commissioners approved three project applications for Small County Road Assistance Program and Bridge Small Community Outreach Program grants through the Florida Department of Transportation. The first is the SCRAP project will see Highway 181 C from Minger Road to the Walton County line, resurfaced, if awarded. The first of the BSCOP projects is on the Peak Road Bridge and the second on the Roping Road Bridge. The funding would be used to make needed repairs to the existing structures.

The Holmes County Board of County Commissioners will meet again in regular session at 6 p.m. on March 1.
