Fugitive on probation for killing boyfriend found on Mattox Springs Road

Law enforcement officers took a fugitive into custody who was wanted for violating probation in connection with the 2013 death of her boyfriend and additional charges of introduction of contraband into a detention facility.

Members of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, along with Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Task Force apprehended 44-year-old Hazel Denise Peacock shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, Mattox Springs Road address.

Peacock’s original conviction dates back to a June 17, 2013 incident in which Peacock called the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office to report that her live-in boyfriend, Tony Ray Armstrong, had fallen down the front steps of their trailer in the Esto community and landed on his knife.

Emergency responders arrived on scene to discover Armstrong in the front yard with a serious knife wound to his chest. Armstrong was transported to an area hospital where he had emergency surgery; however, he did not regain consciousness and died from complications a few days later.

Investigators report discovering signs of drug use at the residence, as well as a 911 call from Armstrong’s cell phone that had been routed to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. Armstrong told Jackson County dispatchers he had been “stabbed in the neck.”

Witnesses told investigators Peacock and Armstrong had been arguing and that Armstrong was stabbed as a result of that altercation. Peacock was ultimately convicted of manslaughter.

Peacock was transported to the Washington County Jail on the felony charges.
