Panhandle library network looks to reduce amount of overdue materials with new service

The Panhandle Public Library Cooperative System (PPLCS) is looking to cut down on the number of materials considered overdue to an “outstanding” level with a new material recovery service.

The PPLCS–which consists of libraries in Holmes, Jackson, and Calhoun counties–began implementing the service through Unique Management Services, the Indiana-based library service company said in a news release towards the end of 2023.

The new service is called Gentle Nudge and will be “courteously reminding patrons of their commitment to their library,” Unique Management Services said.

“This collaboration comes after Panhandle recognized the need for an effective system to ensure the return of materials,” the news release said. “Historically operating with an internal process, PPLCS determined that partnering with Unique Management and their Material Recovery service would enable them to keep more of their valuable assets in circulation, which in turn better serves their patrons.”
