Surrounded by friends, family, and community leaders, The Honorable Jim King was celebrated in a moving ceremony as a bench and plaque were unveiled in his honor as a lasting tribute to his extraordinary dedication and distinguished service to Holmes County.

The ceremony, held under skies that miraculously cleared just in time, was described as “truly special” by those in attendance. The bench and plaque, now placed in a prominent public space, stand as a reminder of King’s 12 years of service as Holmes County Commissioner for District 1, from 2000 to 2012.
The plaque reads:
“The Honorable Jim King’s extraordinary dedication and distinguished service to the citizens of Holmes County, as Holmes County Commissioner, District 1, from 2000 – 2012, are hereby recognized and honored.”

Jimmy King, Jim’s son, shared heartfelt reflections on what the day meant to their family.
“The heavy rain graciously held off until after Daddy’s dedication ceremony, and for that, we are so thankful,” he said. “The weather couldn’t have been more perfect for such a meaningful occasion.”
The event drew neighbors, former colleagues, and community leaders who were all united in their appreciation for King’s impact. As stories, laughter, and memories were exchanged, Jim King himself remained smiling and engaged, soaking in the affection of a community he helped shape.
“You could tell he was having a really good day,” said Jimmy. “He was smiling, engaged, and genuinely enjoying the fellowship and the love that surrounded him.”
Jimmy added, “Moments like these are a reminder of how blessed we truly are, to have each other, to have our health, and to celebrate the ones we love while they’re here to enjoy it. We’re grateful beyond words for everyone who came out and helped make this day one to remember.”
For the citizens of Holmes County, this tribute is more than just a bench, it is a symbol of gratitude, respect, and the enduring power of a life lived in service to others.
