A man with active arrest warrants was taken into custody following a brief foot chase, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were responding to a report of a possible vehicle burglary on Highway 90 July 22 when they spotted what was described as a possible suspect vehicle.
As a deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle allegedly turned onto Banfill Avenue and then into a private driveway. Authorities say the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot.
After a short pursuit, the suspect—identified by law enforcement as Maurice Watford—was apprehended. Deputies say Watford was found to have active warrants out of Holmes County.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation into the reported vehicle burglary and Watford’s potential involvement remains ongoing. No further details have been released at this time.
