A Holmes County man was taken into custody Tuesday evening following an armed standoff with law enforcement in the town of Noma.
According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), deputies responded to a disturbance call on Main Street on September 23. Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a woman who reported that her boyfriend, identified as Kolby Buie, had consumed a bottle of liquor and become intoxicated. The woman told deputies that Buie struck her, took her phone, and threatened her with an AR-15 rifle. She was able to flee the residence before deputies arrived, while Buie remained inside armed with the weapon.
Additional deputies and the HCSO SWAT Team responded to the scene. Authorities said repeated attempts were made to negotiate a peaceful surrender, but Buie did not comply. Deputies reported hearing movement and yelling from inside the home during the standoff.
Law enforcement deployed multiple volleys of gas into the residence, followed by additional tactical measures including the use of CS and CN gas after breaching the front door. Shortly thereafter, Buie exited the home and surrendered without further incident. The AR-15 rifle was recovered inside the residence.
Buie was arrested and is facing charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, battery, resisting arrest, and depriving another of access to 911.
Sheriff John Tate praised deputies and SWAT personnel for their professionalism and restraint in safely resolving the incident.
