This October, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a $4.6 million resurfacing project in Bonifay that will include U.S. 90, from east of Banfill Avenue to east of Hubbard Street, and State Road (S.R.) 79, from U.S. 90 to north of County Road 177.
This project includes:
- Milling and resurfacing
- Drainage enhancements
- Manhole adjustments
- Sidewalk repairs
- New signing and pavement markings
Drivers may experience periodic lane closures on S.R. 79 Sunday through Thursday, between 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., and on U.S. 90 between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. There will be no construction-related traffic impacts for the U.S. 90 at S.R. 79 intersection during school drop-off and pick up times.
This project is scheduled for completion in late 2026.
In a social media post from the Bonifay Police Department (BPD), BPD Chief Johnny Whitaker urged drivers to exercise caution during the project.
“As this important project moves forward, I urge all residents to pay close attention while traveling through construction zones. Please allow yourself extra time for travel, remain alert, and drive with caution to ensure both your safety and the safety of our road crews,” says Whitaker. “Together, we can keep Bonifay moving safely during this construction period.”
