I currently teach English and specialize in working with Students with Disabilities at Holmes County High School. Along with being a teacher, I also serve on the Leadership team, the School Advisory Committee, the Parent-Teacher Organization, as well as being the Student Government Association Sponsor and Senior Class Sponsor.
Both of my parents have worked in the field of education my entire life so I knew from a young age what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to help people, and I knew I wanted to teach. My first job was an after school program tutor at the age of 16 at Bonifay Elementary School. After graduating from Holmes County High School, I was hired at BES as a paraprofessional while I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Troy University. Shortly after obtaining my teaching certification, I applied for a job at HCHS, where I quickly realized that my passion was to help high school students (and their parents) in ways that I and my family needed when I was sitting in those same desks just 10 years ago.
I was appointed to City Council Seat 4 in April of 2022 and given direction by Mayor Travis Cook to be over the city’s parks and recreation and the city cemetery. I have worked with our city employees to make improvements for all citizens to enjoy. Along with serving on the city council, I am a founding board member and currently serve as the liaison for Waukesha Way, Bonifay’s 501c3 that works hard to revitalize, promote and attract opportunities within our city. I am also blessed to own and operate a small business, Smith Designs, with my sister, serve as administrator to Empact Church, and serve as an ambassador for the Girls in Leadership and Mentoring (GLAM) program.
I hope you will see my daily involvement in our city as a direct relation to my passion for Bonifay and our citizens. I am ecstatic about continuing forward with the freshness of progress and reviving the small-town charm that defines our city. With all five seats up for election, your vote matters so much!
I humbly ask for you to vote for honesty, hard work, selflessness and integrity in the March 28 city election. There are some great candidates running for office that will do what’s best for this city. I hope you will consider me as one of them.
Vote Sierra Faith Smith for Bonifay City Council Seat 4.
