Bonifay tables employee handbook amid frustrations

BONIFAY – Several workshops have been held recently concerning the employee handbook, however, the matter was tabled by the Bonifay City Council when they met in a regular session meeting on Monday, August 9.

Councilman Robert Urquhart expressed frustration over employees being paid out for sick time and his disagreement with that part
of the handbook. “We should not be paying out for sick time,” said
Urquhart. “We pay employees to work, not be sick. There are some here
that have
$70,000 in sick time built up, how can we afford to pay that but are two months behind on bills?”

The council agreed the matter should be tabled and discussed further in a workshop.

Integrity Group LLC made a presentation to council members in an effort to be hired to oversee the American Rescue Act funding the city will be receiving, the total amount of those funds is not yet known. Integrity Group estimates the city will receive $1.35 million of which they would require five percent for their work.

The
Cemetery Committee requested Poca Mae Hatcher be appointed to the
committee to fill the seat left vacant with the resignation of Jennifer
Cloud, council approved the appointment.

Bonifay City Council will meet again on August 23 at 6 p.m..
