Suspicious activity leads to arrest of two in PDL


Reports of a suspicious person led to the arrest of two people in Ponce de Leon on Jan. 11 by Holmes County Sheriff’s Office on drug and contributing charges.

A call from the Big Boss store employee stated that two suspects had broken into his car where they attempted to take his wallet and other items.

When deputies arrived on scene the employee stated he had confronted the individuals and they left the scene on foot heading to the rest area with an infant child.

HCSO obtained descriptions of the subjects who were located at the rest area.

According to HCSO, both suspects gave false names to deputies but were later identified as Johneshia Cook and Daniel Smith.

A search of Cook’s purse found ecstasy and marijuana.

Both Cook and Smith are charged with burglary, theft, giving false information, and contributing to delinquency of a minor. Cook also faces additional charges of possession of MDMA and possession of marijuana.

The Department of Children and Families responded and took custody of the infant child.
