FDFS suspends bail bond agent license of suspended commissioner Brandon Newsom

The Florida Department of Financial Services has officially suspended the bail bond agent license of Brandon Brown Newsom.

The suspension comes about two weeks after Newsom was suspended from his position as a Holmes County Commissioner by Governor Ron DeSantis on July 28.

The suspensions come in the wake of felony charges related to Newsom’s alleged violation of Florida Statutes regarding bail bond agents. According to charging documents filed with the state, Newsom simultaneously held credentials as a sworn law enforcement officer and a bail bond agent and also allowed non-licensed individuals to accept money on behalf of his business, Bail Bonds by Brandon Newsom.

Newsom, who has pled not guilty on both counts, is set to appear in Holmes County court on October 1 in pre-trial proceedings.
