Libraries across Florida are beginning to see the results of the defunding of the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences (IMLS), which lost federal funding after an Executive Order in March 2025.
Most recently, the interlibrary loan service that allowed library patrons to borrow books from universities, colleges, and other libraries in the state was halted, with the program ending for Holmes County Public Library on August 1.
“It’s a service that’s valuable to our community that we’ve had to stop just due to cuts,” states Becky Marsh, Director of the Holmes County Public Library.
