Bonifay Fire‑Rescue recently held a ceremony to commemorate the addition of its new Pumper 1, pushing the engine into the station to mark its entry into service. The new engine, purchased with funds appropriated by state legislators, replaces the department’s longtime pumper, a 1986 GMC Sierra that has been in service since it had just 6,000 miles on it. Fire officials noted that the retiring truck carries decades of memories for generations of Bonifay firefighters. The new Pumper 1 will take on the responsibility of transporting firefighters and equipment quickly and safely to emergency calls. Department leaders said they hope the truck will serve future generations as reliably as its predecessor. The department also expressed gratitude to the community for its continued support, emphasizing that each improvement is made with residents’ safety in mind.
