Doctors Memorial Hospital welcomed community members, staff, and special guests on Tuesday, April 14th, for a Donate Life ceremony centered around this year’s theme – “Leave a Legacy.” Organizers state the event served as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact organ and tissue donation can have on individuals and families around the world.

The ceremony began with the raising of the Donate Life flag, accompanied by the National Anthem. The hospital recognized the Vernon High School Color Guard, led by Major Brian Mumfrey, for their participation, stating that their professionalism and dedication helped set a respectful and meaningful tone for the ceremony.

The program continued with a message from guest speaker Tiffany McKinney, who shared her family’s personal connection to organ and tissue donation. Her story reflected both the challenges and the hope that come from experiences touched by donation, leaving a lasting impression on those in attendance.

Representatives from LifeNet Health and LifeQuest Organ Recovery Services were also recognized during the event. Teresa Jones of LifeNet Health and Andrea Colvin of LifeQuest spoke to the importance of their organizations’ work in transforming loss into life-saving opportunities. Hospital officials state that their continued partnership with Doctors Memorial Hospital plays a vital role in serving the community and advancing awareness.

In honor of former hospital employee Joann Royalty, a tree was planted. Through her decision to become a donor, Joann’s legacy has extended far beyond her time at the hospital—impacting 28 individuals across the United States, Spain, and Israel, with hospital representatives noting that 28 lives were impacted because of one.

The hospital extended its gratitude to all who helped make the event possible, including the Vernon High School Color Guard, LifeNet Health, and LifeQuest.

Organizers shared that through events like this, Doctors Memorial Hospital remains committed to honoring donors, supporting families, and encouraging others to consider the life-changing impact of leaving a legacy.
