The Holmes County Board of County Commissioners recently announced new funding support for the Holmes County Public Library through a state grant program.
According to information shared by the county, the library has been awarded approximately $80,000.00 in grant funding, which will go toward supporting day-to-day operations and addressing some immediate needs within the facility. This marks an increase from the previous grant funding amount of $30,000.
Library Director Becky Marsh said the funding will be used to strengthen services and address both staffing and building needs. Plans include hiring additional staff to better serve residents, as well as purchasing and installing a new hot water heater for the library.
“This funding will make a meaningful difference for our library and the people we serve,” Marsh said. “It helps us continue providing important services while also addressing needs within the building and our staff.”
The funding arrives at a time when the library has been working through a number of challenges. In recent discussions, officials have pointed to concerns related to funding, staffing, and maintaining services and programs for the community. Marsh has previously noted that without continued financial support, some services could be limited.
For many in Holmes County, the local library is more than just a place to check out books. It provides access to computers, internet service, educational programs, and a welcoming space for residents of all ages. In a rural community, those resources can play an important role in everyday life.
County officials say seeking out grant opportunities like this one is an important way to support services without placing additional strain on local budgets.
With this funding in place, the Holmes County Public Library is expected to continue serving the community while making improvements that support both staff and visitors
