Community fish fry planned to support Holmes County deputy and Westville Mayor

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the community to come together next weekend in support of one of its own as Deputy Steve Herrington begins treatment following a recent cancer diagnosis.

A fish fry fundraiser will be held Saturday, August 1, at the Pine Log Fire Station, with meals available for $12. Organizers say all proceeds will help offset medical expenses and other unexpected costs for Steve and his family as he undergoes treatment.

The fundraiser comes after an especially challenging year for the deputy’s family. Earlier this year, Steve’s wife, Rachael, was diagnosed with lung cancer. According to the Sheriff’s Office, she recently completed her final treatment and is now cancer-free. The agency is asking the community to continue praying for both Steve and Rachael as Steve begins his own fight against cancer.

Sheriff John Tate described Steve as more than just an employee, calling him family and someone who is always willing to help others without hesitation.

The Sheriff’s Office noted that Steve has played an active role in serving Holmes County beyond his law enforcement duties. He was instrumental in the remodeling of the Pine Log Fire Station, making the venue a meaningful location for the fundraiser while also celebrating the completion of the renovation project.

Agency officials say Steve is known throughout the department as someone who consistently steps forward to assist others and has earned the respect and admiration of his fellow deputies through his dedication to both the Sheriff’s Office and the community.

Organizers are encouraging residents to attend the fundraiser, purchase a meal, and keep the family in their prayers.

“We have seen God work miracles before, and we believe He is still in the miracle-working business,” the Sheriff’s Office said in its public statement announcing the event.

Community members unable to attend are also encouraged to support the family by sharing information about the fundraiser and remembering Steve, Rachael and their family in prayer.
