Jewish Community of Holmes County to hold public menorah lighting amid global reflection

The Jewish Community of Holmes County will host a public Menorah Lighting on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the former Holmes County Middle School campus, located at 401 McLaughlin Avenue in Bonifay. The gathering is scheduled to begin with a community meet-up at 4:30 p.m., followed by the lighting of the menorah at 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

The annual ceremony marks the celebration of Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, which commemorates the triumph of faith, perseverance, and freedom. Attendees are invited to take part in the lighting, enjoy fellowship, and reflect on the values of hope and resilience that the holiday represents. Donuts and soft drinks will be available for purchase.

Organizers noted that this year’s observance comes during a moment of global reflection, as communities around the world mourn a tragic act of terrorism reported earlier today in Sydney, Australia. While details continue to emerge, local Jewish leaders emphasized that the gathering will also serve as a time for quiet remembrance and solidarity with those affected.

Community members of all faiths are welcome to attend. The event is intended as both a celebration of tradition and a reaffirmation of unity, compassion, and shared humanity.
