Traffic stop leads to recovery of stolen firearm 

A Holmes County Sheriff’s Office deputy recovered a stolen firearm during a traffic stop on Highway 79 on Saturday, August 22. 

According to the sheriff’s office, the deputy stopped a vehicle that was traveling without a tag. The driver, identified as Kelvin Johnson, presented an Alabama identification. A license check revealed that Johnson held a temporary license restricted to driving within Alabama and that he had an active warrant in that state. 

During the investigation, the deputy conducted a pat‑down and found a Glock pistol concealed in Johnson’s waistband. A check of the firearm’s serial number confirmed it had been reported stolen in Alabama. 

Johnson was arrested at the scene.

Sheriff John Tate commended the deputy for the thorough investigation and attention to detail.
