Walton County man leads HCSO on car and foot chase


An attempt to conduct a traffic stop instead turned into a pursuit on Nov. 30 for the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

 The driver, Alex Clowes was traveling in a red Dodge truck on Ponce de Leon Springs Road on Nov. 30 , according to HCSO. As the deputy activated his lights, Clowes accelerated and refused to stop, thus initiating a pursuit.

The pursuit continued south on Ponce de Leon Springs Road when reports say Clowes slammed on his brakes in an attempt to to turn left onto Old Mt. Zion Road.

Failing to make the turn, Clowes exited the vehicle and began to flee on foot. The deputy gave chase but was able to apprehend Clowes and take him into custody.

A check found Clowes had 34 active felony warrants out of Walton County and an active VOP warrant in Holmes County.

In addition to the warrants, Clowes is also charged with feeling and eluding, reckless driving and driving while license suspended or revoked.
