The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of this roadside business sign belonging to the Tavern bar located on Highway 2.

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the reported theft of a roadside business sign belonging to The Tavern Bar, located at 3964 Highway 2. The incident was initially reported on January 24, 2025.

According to law enforcement, a deputy arrived on the scene and spoke with the business owner, Lillian Plante, who stated that the sign, valued at approximately $1,500, had been stolen. The missing sign measures approximately 5 feet by 6 feet and is equipped with lighting.

The last confirmed sighting of the sign was by Ms. Plante’s husband on January 23, 2025, at approximately 1:00 PM. A neighbor in the vicinity reported noticing unusual activity, specifically dogs barking, at around 10:00 PM on January 23 and again at 3:00 AM on January 24. It is believed that the sign was taken some time between 1:00 PM on January 23 and 4:00 PM on January 24. Due to the sign’s size and weight, it is suspected that a truck or trailer was used to facilitate its removal.

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office is requesting assistance from the public to identify those responsible for the theft. Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or has information related to the case is encouraged to contact Captain Bill Pate at the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office by calling (850) 547-4421.
