As part of a recent Christmas tradition, Washington County Sheriff Kevin Crews personally handed donations of $1,500 each to representatives with The Arc of Washington-Holmes Counties and Council on Aging on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
The donations were given at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office headquarters in Chipley and are part of Crews’ initiative to get the WCSO involved in the community, a goal he’s worked towards since becoming sheriff in 2017.
“We really appreciate the donation,” said Melissa Troublefield, the Adult Day Training Center program manager for The Arc, which assists disabled and neurodivergent people.

Holmes Council on Aging Executive Director Michael Brown said financial assistance like what Crews donated helps the organization assist senior citizens, which they do through home care visits and providing ramps or lift chairs.
Some of the money will also go towards an upcoming senior luncheon.
“Local support helps make the difference,” Brown said.
The annual WCSO Rodeo factors into funding the Christmas philanthropy, Crews said.
“That’s our biggest fundraiser,” he said. “It’s an honor to be able to do this. These two organizations help the community.”
The WCSO also assists the Council on Aging in delivering Meals on Wheels.
