The Holmes County Board of County Commissioners held a leadership reorganization on Tuesday, Nov. 28, resulting in a new chairman and vice chairman.

Commissioner Jeff Good is the new chairman. He took over from former Chairman Earl Stafford, who served in the role for three years.

The vote to make Good the chairman was 3-1. Good, Stafford, and Commissioners Phillip Music and Clint Erickson voted yes, while Commissioner Brandon Newsom was the sole no vote.

“I’d like to thank Earl for all your years of service,” Good said. “You have, what, 17 in now. That’s going to be some big shoes for me to fill. You’ve done an excellent job as commissioner and excellent job as chairman.”

The current Board is a “good, strong” one with “many qualified people up here,” Good said.

“I look forward to working with you. As far back as I can remember, we have some of the strongest county employees and groups working for us that we’ve ever had,” Good said. “We’re at a real crucial time in Holmes County, with businesses wanting to come in. We have the opportunity to help the county grow and become a better place.”

Meanwhile, Commissioner Phillip Music is the new vice chairman, taking over the role from Brandon Newsom–who served in that role for four years. Newsom chose Music and said he did so to “keep some experience on the board.”

“He’s got an honest heart and I think he’ll serve well as the vice chair,” Newsom said.

The approval for Music was unanimous.

“This will be my last year,” Music said.

“Well, then, you’ll go out with a bang,” Newsom said.
