During an April 15 meeting, the Bonifay City Council officially proclaimed May 8, 2024, as Champion Emma Meredith Day in honor of Emma Meredith’s achievements in weightlifting.

Meredith, a student at Holmes County High School, made history in 2023 by becoming the first-ever Class 1A Girls State Weightlifting Champion in Bonifay under the guidance of coach Kevin Womble. Her success continued in 2024 as she defended her title, showcasing her prowess in both traditional and Olympic-style weightlifting disciplines.

Council members praised Meredith for her dedication, perseverance, and sportsmanship and said that she serves as an inspiration to the community, especially to young athletes.

The proclamation ceremony was attended by local officials, members of the community, and Meredith’s family and friends.
