Prior to the end of Sol Fest, the Holmes District School Board announced the closure of Ponce de Leon Elementary and High School on Monday, May 6, due to anticipated traffic from campers leaving Vortex Spring.

Sol Fest ends late Sunday, May 5, though some attendees are expected to head out the day after.

The temporary closure is “being done out of an abundance of caution due to the uncertainty of traffic conditions” coinciding with usual student arrival times and the beginning of bus routes, the School Board said.

“The risk of a student, employee, or anyone associated with the district being injured is not worth the risk,” the announcement said.
