Governor suspends Noma Council Member, Town seeks applicants for vacant seat

Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 25-212 suspending Noma Town Council Member Coy Mixon following his arrest on sexual battery and battery charges stemming from allegations by a former city employee.

At its November 4, meeting, the Noma Town Council formally accepted the resignation of Council Member Coy Mixon, effective October 23, and acknowledged Executive Order 25-212 issued by Governor Ron DeSantis, which officially suspends Mixon from office following criminal charges filed against him.

Residents interested in being appointed to the vacant Seat 4 are encouraged to attend the next Town Council meeting, scheduled for Monday, December 1, at 6:00 p.m. at Noma Town Hall.

According to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, Mixon was arrested and charged with sexual battery and after a former City of Noma employee accused him of inappropriate conduct. Investigators said the victim provided audio recordings related to the alleged incident. The State Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and approved one count of sexual battery, a second-degree felony, and one count of battery, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Governor DeSantis’s order, signed October 28, immediately suspended Mixon from performing any official duties, receiving compensation, or exercising the privileges of public office pending further action.

The case remains under active investigation.
