The Town of Noma has filled its vacant Seat 4 on the Town Council, appointing former Noma Fire Chief Michael Hernandez to the position during the council’s December 1 meeting.
Hernandez, who has served the community through the fire department, formally resigned his role as Noma Fire Chief at the start of the meeting. He told council members he believed he could best serve the town at this time by stepping into a leadership role on the council.
Seat 4 has remained vacant since the resignation of former councilman Coy Mixon earlier this year, following a Holmes County Sheriff’s Office investigation. With ongoing town projects and routine business requiring a full council, officials said filling the seat had become a priority.
Town officials expressed appreciation for his willingness to transition roles and continue contributing to the community. For now, the council says Hernandez’s experience in public safety and community service will bring a valuable perspective to the governing board as Noma moves forward.
