The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) conducted a traffic stop on January 18, 2025, leading to multiple drug-related arrests and a brief foot pursuit.

According to the HCSO, deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of the road with its lights off near the intersection of Sandpath and J.P. Powell Drive. Upon arrival, law enforcement made contact with the vehicle’s occupants, identified as Robert Bassham and Bennie Thompson.

K9 Timex was deployed to conduct a free air sniff around the vehicle. The canine alerted to the presence of narcotics, prompting further investigation. A search of Bennie Thompson’s person reportedly uncovered methamphetamine concealed in a cigarette pack. During the interaction, Thompson fled the scene on foot.

Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and located additional methamphetamine and a glass pipe. Robert Bassham was immediately taken into custody and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Holmes and Washington County K9 teams, along with aerial support from the HCSO Drone Team, were utilized to track Thompson. After establishing a track, deputies successfully located and apprehended him. Bennie Thompson faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest without violence.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released at this time.
