The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office has secured arrest warrants for a Geneva, Alabama man accused of stealing more than $35,000 through fraudulent online transactions.
According to investigators, a Holmes County resident reported unauthorized purchases made from their bank accounts on Amazon, online gambling sites, and other platforms. A detailed investigation, which included the execution of search warrants and subpoenas, traced the activity to accounts belonging to Jacob Richie of Geneva.
As a result, Richie faces warrants for the following charges:
- Criminal use of personal identification
- Grand theft
- Fraudulent use of a credit card
- Scheme to defraud
- Unlawful use of a two-way communication device
Sheriff John Tate urged residents to remain vigilant in monitoring their personal financial activity.
“We encourage everyone to regularly monitor bank accounts and credit activity and to report any suspicious charges or activity immediately,” Tate said.
The Sheriff’s Office reminded citizens that early reporting of fraudulent charges is critical in preventing further loss and helping investigators track down offenders.
