Holmes County approves tentative millage, sets budget hearing date

COUNTY – The Holmes County Board of County Commissioners set the
tentative millage rate and the date for the tentative budget hearing when the board met in
special session Thursday, July 27.
 

The tentative millage rate will remain unchanged from last fiscal year’s rate of 9.4916. Commissioners state $34,000 in rollover funds will be going into the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. The tentative budget hearing is set for 5:01 p.m. Tuesday, September 14.  The final budget is required to be set by Thursday, September 30. 

In other items, commissioners were advised by County Engineer Cliff Knauer that a  blanket letter is forthcoming from the Department of Environmental Protection which will state that no permits are required on 12 of the 13 roads which are slated for improvements under FEMA funding. The letter will allow for work to begin on Old Mill Road, Valee Road, Bradley Road, Steverson Road, Flowing Well Road,  Beall Packing Road, HooverÂ’s Mill Road, Sand Path Road, Hathaway Mill Road, Oak Grove, Coursey Road, and Bush Road. The remaining road, Peak Road, is expected to  permitted soon. 

Holmes County Board of County Commissioners will meet again in regular session Tuesday, August 3.
