Walton County man is behind bars on grand theft charges

A Defuniak Springs man has been charged with multiple charges after attempting to steal catalytic converters from a business on Highway 10A in Holmes County.

The business owner called the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office in the early morning hours of March 30 when he scared off a man identified as Joshua Best from his business. Best fled on foot but returned to the scene after HCSO had arrived on scene.

The owner had found a cart that Best had placed six catalytic converters in, in an attempt to steal them. HCSO located a backpack that contained DeWalt batteries, Sawzall blades, a drill and some personal hygiene products.

Investigators collected evidence and spoke with Best and the victim before arresting Best and charging him with grand theft, trespassing and criminal mischief.
