Ponce de Leon Town Council recognized the achievements of Ponce de Leon High School’s Lady Pirates basketball team in a presentation at the high school on Monday, April 4.
The gifts are meant to recognize the back-to-back 1A State Championships won by the Lady Pirates.
A sign displaying each team member’s name and a basketball with pictures of the team was presented to the girls. The basketball will be signed by each girl and placed in the trophy case at the high school.
The varsity cheer team was also presented with a sign for their continued support of the school’s athletic teams.
Mayor Shane Busby says he is proud of the hard work these athletes have put in.
“These are outstanding athletes that have represented their school, classmates, and town with pride and hard work,” said Busby. “We appreciate all the coaches and sponsors for teaching our youth what teamwork is all about.”
Busby, Councilman Zack Williams, Chairman George Robertson, Town Clerk Jessica Harris and Deputy Clerk Tyler Nixon were on hand to present the gifts.
