Benefit planned to help Westville child access speech treatment

Peyton Thompson

A benefit is being organized for Peyton Thompson, a 9‑year‑old non‑verbal autistic child from Westville, to help fund an experimental procedure aimed at helping him regain speech.

The event will take place starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, at the Westville Community Center, 2522 Cedar Street, where chicken and pork plates will be sold for $10 each to raise money for Peyton’s treatment. The meals are being prepared by the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff John Tate. A cake auction will also be held, with Holmes County Project Director David Corbin serving as auctioneer. The event is open to the public, and organizers say state and county elected officials and candidates are expected to attend and speak.

Peyton’s mother, Christy Thompson, says he has participated in clinical trials in the past and has been in Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy since he was 18 months old. She is hopeful this new treatment could be a turning point for her son.

“This could give him the chance to get his life back,” Thompson said.

Funds raised would cover the cost of six rounds of treatment for Peyton.

Those wishing to donate directly toward the cost of treatment may do so via Venmo: @PeytonAngels. For more information about the event or additional ways to support Peyton’s journey, contact Christy Thompson at 850‑345‑8300 or Gary Newell at 850‑346‑6846.
