Bonifay sets workshops

Bonifay City Council set dates for workshops to discuss topics such as the upcoming election for the change in the city’s charter, Capital Improvement plans when they met in regular session on Jan. 24. 

Councilmember Rickey Callahan asked the council to set a date to discuss the upcoming election to change the city clerk position from hired to an elected position. Pastor Ryan Martin agreed with Callahan and addressed the council, “I have had many people ask me about this topic,” said Martin. “I will respectfully ask the council to hold a workshop or town hall meeting to answer the questions of your constituents.” The council will hold a workshop on this topic at 5 p.m. on March 7. Discussions for the Capital Improvement plan will be held at the same workshop. The idea of the workshop is to have the ability to set a master list for the next five years. Engineer Elissa Pettis says the document will greatly benefit the council. “Once we have created a master list, we will be able to better track funds and projects,” said Pettis. “This will be a fluid working document that will greatly help the board track funds and their sources.”

A bid for the paving and draining project on Hubbard Street was awarded to Premier Paving. The sole bid totaled $599,633.15. Work on the road is expected to begin in the near future.

The Bonifay City Council will meet again in regular session at 6 p.m. on February 14.
