The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office is looking for a South Carolina man wanted for fraud and theft charges.
On May 4, a man noticed $1,000 had been withdrawn from his account at a local bank. After speaking with a bank representative, he learned that another man withdrew the money using fake identification bearing his name and date of birth.
The bank and victim reported the case to the Bonifay Police Department, who requested the assistance of the Panama City Police Department to enhance images from the bank’s security footage in hopes of identifying the suspect.
While providing law enforcement services on behalf of the Bonifay Police Department, HCSO investigators picked up the case and continued working with PCPD to identify the suspect. The suspect has been identified as Michael Scott Hillwig of Hardeeville, South Carolina. Hillwig’s identity was confirmed by the Hardeeville Police Department, who informed investigators that he is being sought by multiple agencies for similar crimes.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Michael Hillwig. He is wanted in Holmes County on charges of fraud and theft.
