Dogwood Lakes Golf Course heralds Grand Re-Opening with ribbon cutting and tourney

BONIFAY – Saturday saw the celebration of the official re-opening of a Holmes County recreation staple.

Golfers have been enjoying the recently revitalized greens of the Dogwood Lakes Golf Course since May, but new owners Brandon and Heather Shelby held an official ribbon cutting and golf tournament Saturday, July 10, to formally mark the new chapter for the 57-year-old course.

The Shelbys purchased the course from Chuck and Connie Mason, who recently retired after running the course for more than a decade.

The Shelbys say they have been touched by the communityÂ’s response to the grand re-opening.

“Today’s event was beyond our expectations,” said Brandon Shelby. “37 teams of golfers, full community support, and sponsors were able to see the improvements made on the course since we took it over on May 1. We look forward to many years of continued growth and success in Holmes County, and as long-time residents, we couldn’t be more appreciative.”

Representatives with the Holmes County Chamber of Commerce were on hand to conduct official ribbon cutting ceremonies. Winners of the first gold tournament hosted at the course under the Shelby familyÂ’s ownership were: First Place – John Clenney and Thomas Brack; Second Place ¬– Broc Barnes and Joseph Brunson; Third Place – Casey Carroll and Brad Carroll.

Dogwood Lakes Golf Course is located at 1934 Country Club Drive, about seven miles northwest of Bonifay off Highway 177-A.
