First Baptist Church of Bonifay helping uninsured receive health care

BONIFAY – Since 2014, First Baptist Church of Bonifay has been helping the uninsured of Holmes County and beyond meet their basic healthcare needs by way of a health clinic.

Mission Pastor and Clinic Director Chris Nelson says those that meet income requirements and are uninsured can be seen at the clinic.

“If you are uninsured, please come see us,” said Nelson. “One way or another we will make sure you get the help you need.”

Holmes County Community Health Clinic is operated by First Baptist Church of Bonifay and has doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses and volunteers who donate their time on the first and third Saturday of each month for those in need of general healthcare.

Those that may come in just over the income limit can still find the help they need at the clinic who has resources they can set people up with to get the help they need. Nelson says they just wat to help. “We don’t care who you are, or where you are from,” said Nelson. “We just want to help those in need. We are community minded and focused. We want to help our community get through life in any way they need.”

The clinic does not have emergency capabilities but can see those who have general health issues. The doctors on staff may have you come to their office should a follow-up be needed, but most times it will be at a reduced rate. Nelson says do not let financial worries stop you from seeking medical care. “Our slogan is ‘Ministering to the needs of the uninsured since 2014’,” said Nelson. “Our mission is to help those in need, no matter what.”

The most important aspect of the clinic according to Nelson is to meet spiritual needs while meeting the physical needs of the person. “The clinic has been a lighthouse in the community for years,” said Nelson. “We are modeling what Jesus did by helping the sick and uninsured gain access to medical care that may not otherwise be available.

First Baptist Church of Bonifay and other Holmes County Churches have also formed a partnership that offers resources such as a thrift store and food pantry for those who may need them.
