Jastyn Patrick Green, a 31-year-old Chipley man, was sentenced Wednesday, May 6, to 15 years in prison for selling the fentanyl that led to the overdose death of a 35-year-old woman in 2024, State Attorney Larry Basford announced.
Green pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the March 8, 2024, overdose death of a Bonifay woman and was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Russell Roberts.
Holmes County Chief Prosecutor Jake Cook was prepared to prove at trial that Green sold the victim 10 pills for $10 each, claiming they were prescription Percocet. The pills instead contained fentanyl, and the victim died later that day.
The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office investigated the death and gathered evidence that led to the first successful manslaughter prosecution connected to a fentanyl overdose in Holmes County.
“The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office conducted a complete and thorough investigation that led to a successful outcome in this case,” Cook said. “Sheriff John Tate and lead investigator Johnathan Helmes spent months piecing together evidence that enabled us to obtain justice for the victim and her family. While 15 years in prison will not bring the victim back, we hope this sentence provides some closure for the family and serves as a warning to those who continue to sell deadly drugs in our communities.”
Basford thanked the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office for its extensive investigation, which included analyzing cell phone location data and messages.
