HCHS honors 9/11 heroes during Friday night tribute

Holmes County High School held a 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Friday, September 11, ahead of the Blue Devils’ home game against the Graceville Tigers, taking time beneath the Friday night lights to honor those who have served and continue to serve. The pre‑game event at Memorial Field recognized first responders, military members, and active‑duty service personnel, with participants gathering at the north end zone before kickoff.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier attended as a special guest and performed the ceremonial coin toss. Local agencies including Bonifay Fire‑Rescue, the Bonifay Police Department, and the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office joined the tribute, marking 25 years since the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Bonifay Fire‑Rescue expressed gratitude to HCHS for recognizing those who serve and for taking time to remember those lost 25 years ago. The Bonifay Police Department echoed that message, thanking the school for giving the community a moment to come together and honor the sacrifices made. The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office also shared its appreciation, noting that the ceremony reflected the courage and dedication of first responders and military members who continue to serve every day.

Following the ceremony, the Blue Devils went on to defeat Graceville 59–0, closing out the night with a decisive victory.
