The Bonifay City Council met Monday, April 20, announcing bid awards and recognizing both the city’s Employee of the Year and Employee of the Quarter.
The council approved awarding the Memorial Field Drainage Improvements Project to Extreme Land Restoration, LLC following a recent bid opening. According to the engineering review, the company submitted the lowest responsible bid at $476,019.91, with an additional alternate item for extra asphalt work bringing the recommended total to $497,194.91. The project is funded through a $1 million grant from Florida Commerce.
Bonifay Fire & Rescue Chief Travis Cook recognized the 2026 Quarter 1 Employee of the Quarter as Lieutenant Ryan Martin of Bonifay Fire & Rescue. Cook emphasized Martin’s commitment to training new firefighters in department operations, noting hundreds of hours dedicated to mentoring and instruction.
Cook also recognized the 2025 Employee of the Year as Captain Zachary Sellers of Bonifay Fire & Rescue. Cook said Sellers “represents the very best of what fire services in the city stand for,” adding that he serves as an example to newer firefighters of what it means to serve something bigger than oneself.
In other business, a public hearing is set for 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, to review the city’s upcoming application for the Florida Department of Commerce’s FFY 2025 Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. According to the officials, Bonifay may be eligible to apply for up to $700,000 in the Neighborhood Revitalization, Commercial Revitalization, or Housing Rehabilitation categories, and up to $1.5 million in the Economic Development category. The hearing will give residents an opportunity to provide comments and input concerning the city’s economic and community development needs.
The next regular meeting of the Bonifay City Council is scheduled for Monday, May 4, at 9 a.m.
