On Saturday, January 3, officers with the Bonifay Police Department (BPD) and Holmes County Sheriff’s Office, made contact with a vehicle in the Waffle House parking lot after detecting a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.

Officers made contact with the driver, identified as Andrew Strickland of Bonifay and who admitted to recently smoking marijuana and stated that he did not possess a medical marijuana card. Based on probable cause, a search of the vehicle was conducted.

During the search, officers located marijuana, multiple THC vape devices and cartridges containing high concentrations of THC, and drug paraphernalia.

Following the investigation, Strickland was arrested and transported to the Holmes County Jail, where he was charged with felony possession of THC oil, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

”Driving under the influence of any illegal substance is dangerous and puts everyone on the roadway at risk,” says BPD Chief Johnny Whitaker. “The Bonifay Police Department reminds the public that marijuana use while operating a vehicle is illegal in Florida and encourages everyone to make responsible choices to help keep our community and roadways safe.”
